ADDITIONAL FAQs:
Q: Can I request changes after work begins?
A: Once painting has started, modifications are limited. However, I ensure any requested adjustments are discussed before I begin.
Q: Is framing included?
A: Frames are not included but I’m happy to recommend options that best suit your piece.
Q: What kind of reference photo makes for the best portrait?
A:In simple terms, the ideal reference photo for your portrait is one that’s high-quality, brimming with life, and, especially for family or couples portraits, showcases faces close together.
For the most detailed and nuanced portrait, opt for high-quality images. The clearer the details in your photo, the more intricate your portrait will be.
But it’s not just about clarity—it’s about emotion. The best photos are the ones that evoke feelings. I particularly enjoy working with reference photos that capture genuine emotions and movement. So, don’t hesitate to pick that snapshot where laughter or a quirky glance at the camera shines through. Trust me, it’s a decision you won’t regret.
Lastly, if your photo involves 2 people, aim for faces close together. Minimizing white space between faces contributes to a more unified and intimate painting. Let’s make sure your portrait tells a story that’s as vibrant and close-knit as the relationships it represents!
Q: Can you combine different reference photos to make a single portrait?
When I’m asked this question, it’s often with the intention of capturing a moment that can no longer be recreated.
My primary goal is always to provide you with the best possible portrait. However, I typically hesitate to take on requests that involve combining multiple photos. This is because merging photos with different lighting and postures makes it challenging to create a cohesive portrait.
That being said, depending on the quality of the reference photos you provide, it may still be possible. Here are some tips to consider when sending reference photos for combination: Firstly, try to send photos where everyone is in the same pose, either all standing or sitting. Additionally, provide images that display realistic height and size differences between subjects. Lastly, aim to send the clearest images possible, as more detail in the photos will translate to more detail in your portrait.
Refer to the images below from a previous combination piece I’ve done as an example of what to send in!
Feel free to attach your best reference photos to your email If, after reviewing them, I’m not confident in creating a quality portrait for you, I’ll do my best to connect you with another artist who may better suit your needs.
